Delhi-6 (2009)

The film opens with the ailing grandmother Annapurna at the office of a cardiac surgeon in New York. The surgeon indicates that Annapurna suffers from heart blockage and may not have long to live. Annapurna insists on returning to Delhi, her hometown, where she intends to retire in peace.

I was generally dissapointed with Delhi 6, although I thought that there were some incredibly well edited and well shot scenes in it.
My dissapointment came mainly from the content of the story, the main idea, I think is trite. It's some thing that we know, and we have seen before. The narrator/protagonist (played well by Abhishek Bachan), failed to add a new twist to the concept also. There was something lacking in the screen play when it came to originality. That being said, there were some extremely well written parts, like the ones with the two young boys sneaking a quick smoke, the mini story about the broken radio, the quest for the Black Monkey and the scenes with the local cop. Also the parrallel cuts between the Ram Leela production and the lives of the people we were following were the only parts that gave me my moneys worth.

Sonam Kapoor (I think I got the name right), our female love interest, I think could not have been more cliche. There was no developing mutual attraction between the leads, just a general idea that they had to get together because that is what is usually supposed to happen. I know that this is only her second lead but I don't want to see her again till she decides to bring some personality to the screen with her. She's got the genes for persistence and getting it right, and I sure hope she taps in to that pool.

On a final note, am I the only one tired of seeing Amitabh Bachan in these cameos? I've asked around and so far I've been told I'm the only one, is that really true?
